Being a new covenant believer is the best thing that would ever happen to you.
This is because you have Jesus Christ as your Lord. At the moment God deals with you as He deals with His Son.
The problem is that you might not know the privileges that are yours as a new covenant believer;
Or even if you know them you might find it hard to believe.
The reason you may find it hard to believe is that the privileges of the new covenant sound too good to be true.
Imagine an offer to make heaven because you confess Jesus Christ as Lord.
What about the promise of the total forgiveness of sins. It doesn’t matter what you did in the past, once you make Jesus Christ your Lord, you have total forgiveness of sin.
These are some privileges you might still find hard to believe. But this is the truth.
The following are the privileges of being a new covenant believer you are most likely, not aware of.
1. You have total forgiveness of all the sins you will ever forgive.
When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, Colossians 2:13 NASB
This scares ignorant Christians.
The assumption is that if you know you have total forgiveness of sins you will take it for granted.
But the reverse is the case. You will continue wallowing in sins if you don’t believe the total forgiveness of sins.
The reason you have the forgiveness of sin is that you made Jesus Christ your Lord and savior.
It is not because of your good deeds or because of how quick you confess your sins.
As a new covenant believer, God the Father cannot hold any sin against you.
The blood of His Son Jesus Christ separates you from sins. You have been delivered and you remain delivered by the blood of the Lamb of God.
One struggle you have is that you think your mistakes will make God become angry with you.
And once God gets angry with you, He will bring the punishment of all your past sins upon you.
But all those beliefs are wrong. The forgiveness of sins happened once on the cross and it will never be repeated.
As a new covenant believer, you have to Live in this reality.
Remember that it is not about how much you confess your sins or the good or bad you do. You have the forgiveness of sins because of what Jesus Christ did on the cross.
2. As he is so are you in the world.
By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world. 1 John 4:17 NASB
If you struggle with believing total forgiveness of sins as a new covenant believer, deal with this…
As Jesus is in heaven at the moment, so are you in this world.
Do you think Jesus is sinful in heaven? Do you think the Father sees Him as sin on His right hand?
The answer to both questions is no.
Our Lord Jesus at the right hand of the Father is holy, righteous, blessed, exalted and honored.
And the scripture says that all new covenant believer are as He is in heaven.
The limitation to living this victorious life in Christ Jesus is that you don’t know your position.
If you knew your position in Christ Jesus you won’t speak about yourself the way you do.
Yes, you may be making mistakes now, or have an addiction you are struggling with. But the solution is not in concentrating on those addictions or weakness.
You have to realize who you are and where you sit in Christ.
As a new covenant believer, you already have victory in Christ. You are not fighting for victory, you are fighting from victory.
That means no matter what happens you are already a victor.
Live in the consciousness that as Christ is in heaven so are you in this world.
This makes all the difference. Now you can face life knowing you have the backing of heaven in all you do.
3. You can never leave the light of Christ.
Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” John 8:12
I grew in the faith with the erroneous belief that my mistakes take me outside the light of Christ.
It hurts to hear people emphasize this same teaching today.
This has resulted in the belief that if you make a mistake when the trumpet sounds you might miss heaven.
I’ve heard people teach this doctrine vehemently with zest, but it doesn’t make it right.
If there is no assurance in Christ then you are wasting our time believing for a salvation that is uncertain.
The apostles preached the gospel with words, power, the Holy Ghost and with assurance.
As a new covenant believer, I assure you that your name is in heaven.
The conversation should no longer be about either making heaven or not, we should be talking about replacing the darkness that rules most part of our world with the light.
But when new covenant believers are not certain about what they have, how are you supposed to share your uncertain faith?
The verdict of the gospel is that once you make Jesus Christ your Lord, you move from darkness to light.
It is a once and for all transfer from according to Colossians 1:13.
When you make mistakes, you are corrected within the light.
According to scriptures, a new covenant believer doesn’t leave the light of Christ when you sin.
The cleaning process happens inside the light. Did you know this?
4. God does not remember your sins.
“FOR I WILL BE MERCIFUL TO THEIR INIQUITIES, AND I WILL REMEMBER THEIR SINS NO MORE.” Hebrews 8:12
“AND THEIR SINS AND THEIR LAWLESS DEEDS I WILL REMEMBER NO MORE.” Hebrews 10:17
Did you ever hear sermons that suggest a videotape in heaven that records all the good and bad things you do?
On the judgment day a big screen will show everything you did and if your good deed outweigh your evil deed you will enter heaven;
If otherwise, you will end in hell. How foolish we were to believe such fables.
There is no scripture that backs these lies.
The truth according to the scripture is that the Lord does not remember the sins of all new covenant believer.
This is not because the Lord has lost his memory, it is because of the potency of the blood of Jesus Christ our Lord.
His blood washed and still washes you today.
There is no trace of sin in your life in the Father’s eye. Because the blood of your savior Jesus Christ is speaking better things on your behalf.
When you assume God remembers your sins it doesn’t give freedom from self-condemnation.
Hence the blood of Christ deals with sins in your conscience.
If you have made Jesus Christ your Lord, you should henceforth have no more remembrance of sins.
All your sins are in the past in God’s eyes because of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The reason I say so is that the sacrifice of sins was made in the past.
And the scripture says that the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ dealt with sin once and for all time.
5. You have the same righteousness that Jesus has in heaven.
He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. 2 Corinthians 5:21
The new covenant righteousness is right believing not right doing.
When you believe right as a new covenant believer you will live right.
The reason you live wrong sometimes is because you are not believing right.
Unlike the old covenant righteousness which comes by works, the new covenant righteousness is a gift.
You received it the day you made Jesus Christ your Lord and savior.
Remember that as Jesus is so are you in this world. That means you have the exact righteousness He has in heaven at the moment.
But the gap is that you are most likely trying to earn righteousness by what you do.
This is where the problem begins, trying to earn what God offers as a gift.
Imagine trying to earn the percentage of oxygen you inhale from God every day. That’s absurd, right?
That’s akin to trying to earn the ever abounding righteousness of Jesus Christ our Lord.
It doesn’t come on you based on how well you perform. Neither will you lose it based on how many mistakes you make.
Righteousness is yours because Jesus Christ is Lord of your Life.
At this moment you can approach God’s throne as if you have never and will never sin.
God sees you as righteous. He sees you clean. And you are accepted in the beloved because of our Lord Jesus Christ.
6. You cannot lose your righteous stand with God.
For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ. Romans 5:17
it’s an unholy fear for you to assume you can lose your righteousness in Christ through sin.
This is not to advocate you continue to sin. If you are under the grace of Christ, sin will not have dominion over you. Romans 6:14
As a new covenant believer, you live in the realities of Daniel’s prophesy.
Christ Jesus brought everlasting righteousness. And He also offers it to you for free. Your righteousness as a new covenant believer is a gift.
You didn’t earn it because of your good works, neither can you lose it because of your mistakes.
It is important you know this because this will give you victory over temptations and sins.
Don’t assume you won’t make mistakes. This assumption is what leads people astray and make them wonder why they still make mistakes.
You will make mistakes. But knowing that your righteous stand in the presence of God remains the same is what you need to receive grace in the time of need.
Always remember that you have righteousness as a gift. You are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
7. You cannot come under condemnation.
“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life. John 5:24
There is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus.
The major fear of the unlearned in the gospel is the possibility of losing their salvation.
You as a new covenant believer cannot lose your salvation and many scriptures prove this point.
Salvation is for all that have made Jesus Christ their Lord.
If you believe, you have salvation.
Believing is the only requirement. For a new covenant believer your place in eternity is sure and guaranteed.
The problem is that somehow people have removed the guarantee in the gospel of Christ.
This will lead you to fear when you ought to abound in the love and mercy of Christ.
Our Lord Jesus made it very clear in one of the most popular verses of the Bible.
For God so loved the world, that He sent His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.
This is our God!
8. The Holy Spirit convicts you of righteousness.
“And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment; 9concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me; and concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father and you no longer see Me; and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged. John 16:9-11
People believe the Holy Spirit convicts them when they sin. Do you also believe this?
If you notice from above the Holy Spirit convicts the world of one sin. Not plural, sins. He convicts the world for unbelief in Jesus Christ.
You had the same conviction before you made Jesus Christ your Lord.
After the conviction of unbelief, you are forever convicted as the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
You may have wrongly assumed that it is a good thing to speak negatively about yourself when you make a mistake…
But that is the wrong approach in your faith walk.
When you make a mistake the best response is to remind yourself that you are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
This is the point where your confession agrees with the conviction of the Holy Spirit.
He doesn’t remind you of your mistakes. Your memory does a good job.
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth that ministers the truth to all new covenant believer.
And the truth He ministers, when you make a mistake, is that you are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
9. You don’t need monthly deliverance.
A new covenant believer is a new creation. Old things have passed away, behold all things have become new.
As a new creation, you have the responsibilities to know the realities of the new creation.
This comes by studying the letters of Apostle Paul to the church.
It is absurd to preach that Christian needs deliverance from the powers of darkness.
You don’t need deliverance because you are already delivered by Christ Jesus.
The reason the deliverance ministry is thriving is that people want to believe that the root of their problem is somewhere out there.
But the major reason why faith does not work is that you have not believed the father’s love for you.
As a new covenant believer, you have been delivered through Christ and it is a once and for all activity.
Get busy with the scriptures.
Know who you are in Christ.
Find out your privileges as a new covenant believer. Then no demon or deacon can stand in your way.
10. The Holy Spirit will remain with you forever.
“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you. John 14:16-17
The Holy Spirit is your comforter, helper, teacher and He lives in you.
Our Lord Jesus made a promise that the Holy Spirit will never leave us.
This promise is both for when you are good and when are bad.
It is easy to believe the first part. But hard to believe the other part.
But it is the truth. The presence of the Holy Spirit will never be withdrawn from you.
He is in you to help and guide you. To make the journey through life more interesting and fun.
The Holy Spirit is God’s guarantee for all the promises you find in scripture.
One reason you might continue in a mistake is if you believe the Holy Spirit leaves you when you sin.
He is there to correct and admonish you. To remind you that you are still the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
Hence, no matter what you’ve done in the past or a few moments ago the Holy Spirit is still with you.
Be conscious of His presence at all times. This is hard but it is possible if you fond of practicing His presence by saying, Thank you Holy Spirit.
Conclusion
Your privileges as a new covenant believer are more than what I have listed above.
I’ve tried to show some of the important tenets of your Christian faith.
I made a lot of emphasis on the forgiveness of sin because according to scripture it is the first thing you have to know and believe.
I know there are more. Please share what you think I’ve missed in the comment below.
