Behold I have longed after your precepts: quicken me in your righteousness. Psalm 119:40 KJV
Forgetting your past is easier said than done.
Especially when you made yourself a promise of never making the same mistakes again.
If you have ever had sex outside marriage and stopped. And promised yourself never to do it until you get married, but fall for the same mistakes again, then you know what I am talking about.
You know the struggle in you for strength and fortitude to go on and pretend the mistake didn’t happen.
I made that promise to myself and broke it. And I wish most times that day didn’t happen.
But it did. And there is nothing I can do about it. I don’t brood over the mistake anymore. Rather I seek God’s strength daily to say no fresh temptations.
And that’s practically how God’s strength is available to you. You need it every day and every time.
We all have weaknesses. Yours might be food or too much Television or whatever. Yet you know the rate at which you indulge in such will hurt you in the future.
And the way out is to seek God’s strength for that area of weakness.
God’s strength is in His righteousness.
His righteousness gives you access to the throne of grace at all time.
This means you can walk up to the throne of grace to find mercy and grace at the time of need.
His righteousness is a righteousness that comes by faith.
And the faith is the faith that comes through Christ Jesus our Lord.
What that means is that you have a righteousness that is not your own.
Martin Luther called this righteousness an alien righteousness.
He struggled to please God and become righteous before God. He failed. And failed again, until he realized that his righteousness was not his but Christ’s.
All the struggle he had with the flesh and where he will spend eternity ended the day he realized that His righteousness is in heaven.
If you are serious about invoking God’s strength for that area where you are making so many mistakes… then you have to take the righteousness of Christ very seriously.
The beauty of the righteousness by faith is that you can’t earn it.
You can’t earn it because it is a gift.
Likewise, you can’t also lose it.
Even when you make or continue with that mistake after you have made Jesus Christ your Lord and savior.
The day you realize how God’s strength comes through the righteousness of Christ, you’ll stop struggling.
Because sin will not have dominion over you because you are not under the law, but under grace.
Hence, God’s strength that comes through His righteousness waits for you until you know your stand in His presence.
So if you make mistakes while learning this truth, the Father is patient with you.
You won’t figure out everything about your life immediately you make Jesus Christ your Lord.
The journey with the Lord is a lifetime journey and the road is not as smooth as you may assume.
You will make mistakes. Yet you must learn how God’s strength is available to you to live beyond those mistakes.
Even if you fail again while invoking God’s strength through His righteousness, you have to stick to His righteousness.
All the promise you get in the scriptures is through the faith in the righteousness of Christ.
If you are not confident that the Father hears your prayer, how will you be sure that His strength is available to you?
Your righteousness is a guarantee that the Father hears your prayers.
His eyes are over the righteous and His ears are open to their prayer. 1 Peter 3:16
He doesn’t hear or responds to you because you are good or have been faithful.
The Father hears your prayer because of the righteousness of Christ Jesus that’s yours.
This is the reason even at the moment when you have blown it, you have to seek God’s strength knowing His righteousness.
much more those who receive the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the one, Jesus Christ. Romans 5:17
The word reign in the verse above describes your rule over situations and circumstances.
That’s means if you are reigning in life your weaknesses will not reign.
If you are reigning in life your addictions will not reign.
And the way to reign in life is to receive the abundance of Grace and the gift of righteousness.
Reigning requires strength.
This links strength to righteousness. And the righteousness is the righteousness by faith. And it is a gift from the Father.
So you see that God’s strength is available to you if you need strength in an area of your weakness.
Knowing this thus means you have to do all you can to know, understand and believe in the righteousness of faith that comes through Christ.
It is a righteousness that Daniel described as everlasting righteousness.
This righteousness gives you all day access to the throne of God to make requests and seek God’s strength for the moment of your weakness.
The prophet Isaiah gives you a clue on how to invoke God’s strength…
Surely, one shall say, in the Lord, I have righteousness and strength. Isaiah 45:24
So it important you learn to speak these words to yourself.
It is not enough to claim that you believe. If you know and believe the truth, then you have to confess the truth.
Remind yourself that you are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
The more you feel tempted to succumb to your weakness, remind yourself that you are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
Personalise Isaiah 45:24 by saying…
Sure I ……….(your name) declare that in the Lord Jesus Christ, I have righteousness and strength.
This is the secret to invoking God’s strength when you are weak.
You might ask, “how am I sure this will work?”
The duty of all farmers is to sow the seed and watch it grow.
When you speak the Word of Christ over a situation, you are planting seeds.
The Word of Christ is the most powerful seed you can plant to solve any problem in your life.
If you dare to speak it, wait for it to bear fruits. And the fruits will be God’s strength in that area of your weakness.
So let’s say you can’t stop lusting.
When the thoughts continue to come up in your mind, you have two choices.
You can either say, “this problem is getting worse” or say “ in Christ Jesus, I have righteousness and strength over bad thoughts”.
Whatever you say, believing, you will have it.
As much as these thoughts keep coming, continue to confess the Word of Christ to it.
You will wake up one day, look back to when you used to struggle, and praise the Father for the strength is His Word.
The words you speak unleashes God’s strength in all areas of your weakness.
