What would be your response if I ask – Do you believe the gospel?
Depending on where you are now, your answer may be yes.
But if I took it a step further to ask – do you believe that God forgave all the sins in your lifetime, would your answer remain yes?
What if I continue by asking – do you believe no sin can separate you from God after confessing Jesus as your Lord and savior? Will your answer remain a yes?
If I told you that once you confess Jesus as Lord, you cannot lose your salvation, would you believe me?
Assuming you have said yes to most of the question but doubt the last part…
… then there is no need to claim you believe the gospel if you are not sure of your eternal salvation.
This post will help you understand the gospel. It will also help you clear some misconception about the faith in Jesus Christ.
To get the best from this post you will have to open your heart to see the truth through the scripture.
The world finds fault with the gospel of Christ because it doesn’t take cognisance of self-effort.
This is the reason you might not relate to Christ Jesus. You want something to do.
All your life your life you may have heard that it is important to please God.
But what you may not have heard is that once you confess Jesus as your Lord, the Father declares you pleasing to Him.
The gospel sounds too good to be true.
If you grew in the religious setting where God is always portrayed as a judge, the gospel sounds too good to be true.
Religious people make the message of the cross complicated.
God is not the author of confusion. The gospel of his grace through Christ is the salvation of the world.
Depending on what you know so far, you may only see salvation as deliverance from damnation in hell.
It is more than that. Salvation is not only deliverance from hell. It is also deliverance from suffering, sickness, and poverty.
Hence when Christ saved you on the cross, He saved everything about you.
The gospel is about Jesus Christ and His finished work.
It is a finished work because there is no longer anything to do to improve it.It is sad that the kind of gospel that is prevalent these days will demand things and activities from you.
But it is not so. You cannot serve God the right way and live a successful Christian life if you don’t receive the truth of the gospel.
Religion says you can disappoint God when you fail him. Really?
You believe your actions can disappoint the all knowing God?
He knows how frail you are and the mistakes you can make.
Instead of thinking of the punishment that would come because of the mistakes you make…
… you should spend more time thinking of His Holy Spirit that is with you to help you.
The gospel is about shifting the focus from you and what you can do…
…to Jesus and what He did on the cross.
God no longer has anything against you. Believe the gospel. It is all about Jesus. Keep your eyes on Him. That is all you have to do.
The gospel reveals the righteousness of God.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
For in it the righteousness of God is revealed [j]from faith to faith; as it is written, “But the righteous man shall live by faith.” Romans 1:16-17
All teachings about the gospel should point you to the righteousness of God.
The righteousness of God is a person. His name is Jesus Christ.
It is important you don’t focus on your righteousness. The reason is that you are not always performing at your top level.
Some times you might be doing fine and at other times you might be doing poorly.
But you need to maintain a constant stand with God.
This is the reason you cannot depend on your performance.
It is only the righteousness of Christ that remains constant.
You need to listen to the gospel that unveils the righteousness of God in Christ.
In the new covenant, the righteousness of God is a gift.
There was a time when you actions determined if you are righteous or not.
You longer live in those times. The righteousness of God is a gift. This is what makes the gospel good news.
Christ ensured you don’t to struggle to perform.
But problems arise when you continue to hear teachings that emphasize that your actions determine if you are righteous or not.
Such teachings will distort your focus.
“The gospel directs your focus to the man at the center. His name is Jesus Christ.”
As you keep your focus at the man the center, you are transformed to living a righteous and a holy life.
Believe the gospel – God no longer considers your actions to judge you righteous.
When you believe the righteousness in Christ, you will produce the fruits of righteousness.
The gospel doesn’t take cognizance of your efforts.
The gospel of grace drives religious people nuts.
It is hard for such people to accept the truth that Christ finished the work.
Are you at the point where you are struggling to believe the gospel?
Don’t be discouraged the Holy Spirit will show you a way out as you read.
It is human for you to ask for the part you ought to play.
But it is divine for God to say – believe the gospel.
Consider all the miracles Jesus performed.
All the people had to do was to carry out His instructions.
He told the blind man to go to the pool and wash the clay off His face. John 9:7
Christ told 10 lepers to go and present themselves to the priest. Luke 17:10-19.
Bartimaeus was asked what he wanted after making the Lord turn towards his direction. Mark 10:46-62
All the miracles and healing happened without conditions.
The people didn’t have to fast and pray. They didn’t have to make any sacrifices. All they did was to depend on the mercy and Grace of Christ.
This same principle is still effective today. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.
Whatever it is you need from Him, all you need do is ask in His name.
If you have continued to ask yourself what part you need to play for your miracle to come to pass then you have missed the truth in the gospel.
Human efforts cannot compliment the grace of God. It repels it.
This will not be easy to put in place if you are hearing this truth for the first time.
But to make it work for you, start by always asking the Holy Spirit to guide you in all the decisions you make.
You will follow some of His leading and sometimes you won’t.Don’t be discouraged. Continue to seek His help and grace at all times. With time you learn to depend on Him for provision and guidance.
Israel did not enter because of unbelief.
So we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief. Hebrew 3:19
Have you ever considered the deal God made with the Jews?
They were going to own a land God promised their forefathers.
All they had to do was accept what God said and receive what he provided.
But it didn’t happen that way. They wanted to be a part of the miracle.
And the scripture records that they couldn’t enter because of unbelief.
Fast forward to the new testament and the 21st century.
The promises of God are potent.
Do you know that you are an heir according to the promise made to Abraham?
If this is true, why is that the blessings of Abraham elude you and most part of the church?
It is because you may be seeking it by the law.
That means you are seeking the promises of God by what you can do.
But the promise God made to Abraham was according to faith.
Abraham believed the good news and it God reckoned him as righteous.
For you to receive all the promises of Abraham you must have the same kind of faith.
This is the reason the scriptures say he aids the seed of Abraham.
Abraham received all the help he needed because he believed the good news.
You can receive all the help you need by believing the gospel the same way that Abraham believed.
This is my admonition to you –
For the next one week, all you need do each time you worry is remind yourself that you are the seed of Abraham.
Confess that you are a righteous man. And that the favor of God is over you.
It’s not hard right? But it is quick to forget.
When you are reminded of the trial you are going through and it seems all hope is lost…
…that is time to quote the scripture and say… He gives aid to the seed of Abraham.
Like the Jews you have a choice to either solve your problems by yourself;
Or let God do His thing.
It is not easy to let God do His thing especially when there is no physical evidence.
But you have to start learning to walk by faith and not by what you see. You are a seed of Abraham. Believe the gospel and see the grace work for your good.
Align your beliefs to new covenant realities.
The time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God is at hand, repent and believe the gospel. Mark 1:15
Testifying both to the Jews and also the Greek, repentance towards God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. Acts 20:21
I bring both scriptures to make a final point…
You have to change your wrong beliefs about God.
God is not using what you are going through to teach you a lesson.
I have heard people say God made me broke so that I can die to flesh. Some will say God made me sick to humble me.
As noble as these statements may sound, it is a lie. God does not use evil to chastise His children.
Jesus Christ asked a question by saying which of you will his child ask for bread and you will give him a stone?
The question was to make them understand that God is Father.
He cares for His children. He seeks every possible means to bless you so that you can be a blessing.
You have to change what you believe about the Lord.
This is the reason Jesus started His ministry by saying “REPENT”.
Apostle Paul preached repentance to both Jews and Greek. And repentance is towards the Father.
Repent means change of mind. Christ told them to change their mind about the wrong beliefs they hard towards God.
God is not harsh. He is your father. Like every Father, He wants to bless you beyond your dreams.
Believe the gospel by changing your wrong beliefs about God.
The gospel sounds too good to be true. Yet you still have to believe the gospel.
This was the reason the whole city came out to hear Apostle Paul preach.
Unlike most preachers today… the Apostles revealed the righteousness of God through their teachings.
They emphasized that it was all about Jesus.
The gospel does not take cognisance of your efforts. If you want to solve your life issues by yourself, you are negating the finished work of Christ.
Which was one of the reasons the Israelites could not enter into the promise?
God gave the land to Abraham as a promise. But they wanted to receive it by their own righteous act.
All the promises of God through Christ is received through the righteousness of faith.
The good news of the gospel is – the Lord Jesus Christ finished the work.
